Golf dvds the Future of Golf Instruction

The Golf dvd is quickly becoming the recreational golfers secret weapon. For the last several years, mainly in part to the Internet, the number of instructional golf dvds to hit the market has soared. From big names such as Golf Digest to small golf pros that want to get their spin on golf training out to the masses. As a training golfer that is striving to improve your swing and lower your score this is good news. Using a golf dvd to work on your game saves money, and time compared to private lessons or weekend golf schools.

Broad and specific Golf DVDs

There are two types of golf dvds, one focuses primarily on the full golf swing, while the other focuses on a particular part of the game that many people struggle with. A perfect example is Pure Point Golf Academy sells a Full golf swing dvd, entitled the full swing', while they also offer several other golf instructional dvds focusing on bunker play, short game, and how to hit a draw. It makes sense that you start with the foundation of the game, and then begin to focus on the finer points.

Benefits of a Golf dvd as an Instructional Aid

As an average golfer a golf dvd offers two main benefits. One, you can learn from the comfort of home, practice what you learn when you can and refer back to the material if need be. Two, dvd golf lessons build on each other. In the example above, you would most likely want to start with perfecting your full swing for your woods and long irons. How ever once you achieved the performance you expected in that part of your game, you'd want to move onto possibly the Short game golf training dvd. You'd take what you'd learned in the previous lessons and build on it more to shave a few more strokes off your game.

Just like a regular golf lesson/school using a golf dvd to improve your game is a one step at a time process. The game of golf is difficult, and requires you to master several different swings, golf stance, and techniques. It isn't until you get a good grasp on all of these facets that you really begin to see huge improvements in your score.

Let's take a look at a couple of specific Instructional Golf Videos

Pure Point Golf

The golf training dvd I personally use are fro Pure Point Golf Academy. The instructional style is second to none, and as an amateur golfer I find it easy to follow and understand. Bobby, the head pro, breaks a difficult task down into more digestible parts. Meaning you can watch as little or as much as you want in one sitting and then head out to the driving range to practice what you're learned. Below is a sample free golf video clip from one of Pure Points dvds on Bunker Play. You can see the detail that is given to ensure you have a firm understanding how and why something is done a particular way.

Leadbetter videos

The Leadbetter series of golf instruction dvds is probably the best known as well as most widely produced and available. The newest edition to their catalog of products is the Leadbetter Interactive Five-DVD Set, where David covers setup and swing concepts, Golf swing essentials, shaping your swing, and power equal distance. Like Pure Point, the instructional method is superb and these latest dvds have been filmed in high definition. A nice addition to this set I thought was smart was the inculsion of Leadbetter's exclusive swing analysis software. This is the same software David uses at his golf schools and with tour pros.

Using a golf dvd is a newer technique for golf instruction, with todays tech savvy world I believe it's a very viable option to improving your golf swing. One other point I'd like to mention, while it isn't an actual golf dvd as per se I believe it's the next generation of online golf lessons we're going to experience. There is a new interactive golf apprentice program that has launched online. It's uses a series of videos, one-on-one coaching, as well as an interactive forum message board to help you improve your game. It's worth taking a look at if you're in the evaluation mode of golf instruction options.
