Golf Clubs for Beginners

As a beginner golfer you've probably discovered just how difficult it can be to hit the ball straight consistently. Even more so if you happened to find yourself in a local golf shop where one of their golf consultants tried to tell you that the latest Nike golf driver is perfect for your game. This could be no further from the truth, golf clubs for beginners should make the game easier for you, not more difficult. If you struggle with a golf swing slice, topping the ball, or hitting the ground before the ball, then this article is for you.

Beginner golf clubs are designed to help you make the difficult part of the swing easier, or compensate for small technical errors that might occur during your full swing. Having the correct golf clubs for a beginner will aid with your swing accuracy and consistency. Best golf clubs for beginners

Ideally if you're getting ready to make a golf purchase of a new club set you should purchase something that is going to help your game, not necessarily the latest and greatest new technology. There are a few things you should keep in mind when shopping.

If you slice a lot off the tee, chances are you're suffering from an out to in swing plane which doesn't allow the face of the club to be square with the ball during impact. Don't beat yourself up over it, over 80% of golfers struggle with this issue. What you can do to help correct it besides beginner golf lessons is to purchase a driver with an oversized club head. Most brand name club manufacturers as well as customized clubs offer a larger driver head to help with mis hits, and give you a more forgiving surface to drive the ball with.

Most amateur golfers also struggle with hitting their longer irons well. What I mean by long irons is your 3, 4, and sometimes even your 5 iron. When you're 160-200 yards from the green you don't have a club in your bag that you feel confident with, so you end up laying up with a 50-80 yard shot still to the green. To solve this more golfers are carrying a hybrid golf club set. These clubs, look like a small wood, but with the loft of an iron. A little side note here, the greater the loft the more forgiving the club is, so you should look for hybrid clubs and woods with increased loft to help your shots maintain consistency. Consider replacing your 3, 4, and 5 irons with hybrid golf clubs for beginners, and you'll find yourself in play and closer to the green more often from 200 yards out.

Now to the real skill part of the game, putting. Ever heard the old saying 'Drive for show, putt for dough'? Well it couldn't be any closer to the truth. Your score is made on the green, so you need to have the right equipment to perform. A beginner putter with good weight distribution as well as an aid for aligning those 3-5 foot putts will do wonders to keep your putting average to 2 or under.

So what's the ideal Beginner golf club set look like?

As we mentioned already, buying the latest and greatest in golf club technology doesn't make sense for a beginner. Your money is better spent on a set of golf club knockoffs that provide you with all the benefits we've talked about such as larger club face, forgiving club head etc. Here's what our perfect Beginner golf club set would look like.

Beginner golf driver

Driver: The ZR1 Offset Ti Driver 460cc from Pine Meadow Golf is modeled after the Ping G5 club. It is has a large head size of 460cc, with lots of club face surface area. This will be more forgiving off the tea reducing your chances of slicing the ball. The ZR1is an offset club head, this means that while your swing might not always bring the face of the club back to the ball at the perfect moment, the club will compensate by allowing you to make perfect contact a little bit later in your swing. It's a great feature for a beginner golf club driver.

beginner fairway wood

Fairway Woods: To match up with the ZR1 driver we mentioned above our pick for a 3 and a 5 wood for beginners are the ZR1 3 wood and 5 wood. Both of these clubs are off set providing the same benefit in your swing as described above. Both of these clubs would do wonders off the tee, or the fairway.

beginner hybrid golf set

Irons/Hybrids: Remember above we talked about the benefit hybrid irons offer beginner golfers compared to longer irons (i.e. 3, 4, and 5 irons). This recommended iron set is composed of a mix of irons and hybrid clubs. Perfect for a beginner golf set. This set would be classified as a hybrid golf set as it includes a 3,4 and 5 hybrid, then a 6 – SW in your irons. The club faces are very forgiving providing a large sweet spot in which to strike the ball straighter more consistently. The set is the ZR1 Hybrid Golf Set

beginner putter

Putter: Well, we have to mention that while not usually the most glamorous club in your bag, your putter is the one that can save you a lot of strokes. A larger head is ideal for your putter, they are easier to keep straight and have a great feel to their swing, almost like a pendulum. Combine this with the aiming aids that are part of most new putters and you have the right tool for the job. The putter we recommend for beginners is the Xeon M-2 putter. The Xeon provides perfect weighting, combined with an alignment aid to help you with those 1-4 foot putts around the cup.

The set described above is less then $450 and will last you well past the point that you're a beginner golfer. You can read more about each of the clubs we've recommended at the links below.
